After Eight Years, Quake Champions Is No Longer Free-to-Play

Do you remember Quake Champions? It's the title with which id Software tried to revive the atmosphere of '90s arena shooters. Released in 2017 on PC in early access, it transitioned to the full version in 2022 and has continued to receive updates in the following years. Quake Champions launched as a free-to-play game with microtransactions, a model that has now been changed.

How Much Does Quake Champions Cost Now?

Quake Champions has been updated to patch 1.31 and is no longer free-to-play: the game is now paid, at a price of €9.99. The in-game economy has been completely overhauled: battle passes, microtransactions, and virtual currencies have been abolished. All Champions and most cosmetic content are now available without additional costs. However, development has concluded: no new content will be introduced in the future.

Not Everyone Has to Pay for Quake Champions

Anyone who played Quake Champions on Steam before September 23 will not have to pay, as they will automatically receive it on their account. Those who played Quake Champions before that date on the Microsoft Store will receive the title on Steam if they have a Steam account linked to Microsoft; otherwise, they have until October 7 to make the link.
