Do you remember a time when the concept of a gaming PC was essentially synonymous with the aesthetics of a carnival ride? Buying a gaming laptop meant bringing home a big, heavy box, studded with LEDs, lights, and other highly questionable decorations. Over time, of course, the situation changed, for several reasons. On one hand, it was probably discovered that those who enjoy spending their free time with video games are not necessarily one-neuron boors attracted to colored lights like moths in summer; on the other hand, with the arrival of AI and the expansion of professions related to photo and video editing, the power of systems designed for gaming quickly proved to be a very interesting product for digital professionals as well. But professionalism often rhymes with sobriety, and so the lines and designs of gaming PCs and laptops soon softened, abandoning over-the-top aesthetics for more subdued advice (and curves).

It's not new: recently, we have already reviewed on these pages products that combine above-average power and versatility with a refined, often minimalist style and design, conceived to be inconspicuous and integrate aesthetically into professional environments. The latest on this list is the MSI Stealth 16 AI+ B3WI laptop, which we had the pleasure of testing with great satisfaction in recent weeks.

MSI Stealth 16 AI+ B3WI, Design & Construction

As mentioned earlier, design is a very important element for the MSI Stealth 16 AI+ B3WI: on the official website, it is defined as a "premium slim AI ready gaming laptop," and indeed the definition is quite fitting. As stated, let's forget the exaggerations of gaming laptops from some time ago. The MSI Stealth 16 AI+ B3WI comes with an elegant Charcoal Black aluminum case, glossy, satin, and very pleasant to the touch. The corners are rounded, and on the top of the chassis, there's also a very slight decoration: geometric lines on the right side forming an S and the MSI logo on the bottom left, both traced with a lighter line, clearly visible only against the light. Below the virtually borderless screen, the keyboard is located centrally in the upper part of the chassis, while below it, a decidedly large touchpad stands out: it's a slightly different approach than usual and takes some getting used to, but it works well once you get the hang of it, although perhaps we would have liked the option to include a numeric keypad in the available space.

The big surprise is the dimensions, decidedly contained in relation to what the MSI Stealth 16 AI+ B3WI laptop offers: 35.4 cm x 24.6 cm x 1.99 cm are truly impressive considering the 16" screen. The build quality is excellent; the laptop always gives a feeling of solidity and resistance, both during transport and in daily use: no creaks or other noises, even when pressing on the central part of the keyboard.

MSI Stealth 16 AI+ B3WI, Performance and Specifications

The MSI Stealth 16 AI+ line consists of three models that differ in specifications by the graphics card model provided: GeForce RTX 5070 8 GB GDDR7, GeForce RTX 5070 12 GB GDDR7, or GeForce RTX 5080 16 GB GDDR7. The MSI Stealth 16 AI+ B3WI model we tested in recent weeks is the most powerful model in the line (and currently online for around €4,000). In addition to the aforementioned graphics card, the configuration is completed by an Intel Core Ultra 9 386H processor, 32 GB of DDR5 RAM, a 1 TB SSD hard drive, and an IR FHD type webcam (30fps@1080p) with HDR. We will discuss the OLED screen shortly.

First, let's shift our attention to gaming performance, because if you remember the initial definition from the laptop's official website, gaming is the primary destination of the MSI Stealth 16 AI+ B3WI. Without mincing words, the performance proved to be up to expectations. We tested the MSI laptop with a set of games that includes very recent titles (Forza Horizon 5, 007: First Light, Crimson Desert) and older but still demanding titles (Cyberpunk 2077, Doom: The Dark Ages), and with all of them, we exceeded 100 FPS with the highest preset at the panel's native resolution (2560x1600), allowing us to then balance ray tracing and DLSS to find the preferred point of equilibrium. Beyond preferences, the MSI Stealth 16 AI+ B3WI currently allows you to play essentially everything with the message setting at perfect fluidity.

Since the test took place during these last scorching weeks for the Po Valley, the MSI Stealth 16 AI+ B3WI often had to work in suboptimal conditions for heat management, yet it performed more than admirably. The cooling system designed by MSI, which projects hot air out of the device at three different points, does its job. Under normal load, the ventilation system is perceptible but blends in with ambient noise, and the chassis never transmits heat to the points where hands and wrists rest for work. Under intense gaming sessions, the noise obviously becomes much more noticeable, but performance is not affected.

The Display of MSI Stealth 16 AI+ B3WI

A strong point of the MSI Stealth 16 AI+ B3WI is undoubtedly the 16" OLED monitor, not only for its remarkable proportions for a laptop of this size (and weight) but also for its performance. The depth of black is very profound and enhances darker scenes, while HDR brightens luminous scenes and enhances effects. The good brightness allows for good visibility even outdoors and in bright conditions, although some reflections are inevitable. The 240 Hz refresh rate is especially appreciated when gaming, positively affecting the overall fluidity of the image.

MSI Stealth 16 AI+ B3WI, Battery Life and Portability

As often happens with devices of this type, there is always some kind of compromise between performance, size, and battery life. In the case of the MSI Stealth 16 AI+ B3WI, the weakest side of the triangle is battery life, with a 90 WHr battery (rather standard for this type of device) that cannot guarantee a full 8-hour workday without recharging, unless the activities performed have very little impact on the CPU and GPU workload. In this sense, the USB-C charging option up to 100 W is very useful, allowing for fast recharges on the go without having to carry the large and heavy 240 W power adapter.

The contained dimensions and weight allow the MSI Stealth 16 AI+ B3WI to be used on the go without major drawbacks. The weight of around two kilograms allows the laptop to be comfortably transported in a backpack without causing much discomfort. As already mentioned, the screen's brightness allows you to work (or watch streams) even outdoors, if not in direct light situations, while the 4 speakers do a good, but not excellent, job: in an environment with voices and noises around, it's better to rely on a speaker or headphones.

MSI Stealth 16 AI+ B3WI, The Final Verdict

As anticipated in the review, this model of the MSI Stealth 16 AI+ B3WI is on the market for about €4,000, certainly a significant sum, but in a context of constantly rising prices, it's no longer so absurd, considering the configuration. MSI's laptop does everything well, from gaming to productivity, including audio and video editing, with the inherent limitations of a laptop, in this case mainly related to battery life, considering how excellent and generously sized the screen is for a portable PC. Another strong point is its lines and design, which make it perfectly camouflaged even in a more sober productive environment than the classic gaming corner.
