Keeper, the review: one of the most beautiful surprises of this 2025 in gaming
The spiritual and surreal adventure.

Keeper is an emotional, unique, and atmospheric puzzle adventure. The new project by Double Fine confirms that this development team continues to not be afraid to create incredible and unconventional games, and is, without a doubt, one of the most unique, peculiar, and poetic experiences seen in 2025. Thanks to our friends at Xbox Italy, we had the fortune to get our hands on this gaming gem, and we are ready to tell you all about it.
The plot of Keeper
Keeper is the story of a lighthouse long forgotten on a post-human island that, after years of slumber and for mysterious reasons, awakens and comes to life. The ancient masonry of the lighthouse crumbles, causing it to fall back to the ground, but again, and thanks to magically grown legs, it rises from the ground and sets off on a journey to the top of the mountain at the center of the island, exploring a world now reclaimed by nature and accompanied by a lively seabird named Twig.

It's an incredible visionary story that speaks of friendship, rebirth, light, and connection with nature. It's a mystical and ever-evolving adventure, set in a wonderful and surreal otherworldly realm that goes beyond all comprehension.
Keeper is a game without dialogue. There are no words, voices, or texts to explain what is happening. Everything is entrusted to the environment, movements, music, and small gestures of complicity between the lighthouse and its feathered friend.
It's a story that will unfold through what you see and hear, and much of it will be up to you to interpret. It's a sweet, melancholic, at times spiritual adventure.
The world of Keeper is a surreal wonderland rich in incredible sights and sounds, sometimes inviting you to pause for a second, spend time there, immerse yourself in it, and experience it fully.
Ultimately, the story is open to your interpretation, and it will give you the chance to piece together this puzzle as you progress on your journey to the mountain's summit.
During the journey, you will understand that Keeper deals with many themes, such as new life, companionship, and continuous evolution.
The gameplay of Keeper
As already mentioned, Keeper is not an action title, but rather a slow and meditative exploration, rich in environmental puzzles and with mechanics linked to the use of the lighthouse's beam of light and interaction with the bird Twig.

Wandering around, you can illuminate everything and observe how it influences the world around you.
By pointing and focusing the beam, you will see how plants come to life and how threats seem to fear it, and it can also be used to discover new paths or guide Twig to manipulate objects to solve puzzles.
Keeper is all about experimentation and curiosity.
The puzzles are there, some very simple and others less so, but they are never frustrating: more than real challenges, they seem like small moments of contemplation in understanding how the world reacts to light and how this will help us overcome the enigmas.
The game is not designed to make you fail or lead to defeat, but is more focused
on guiding you in exploration, highlighting the beauty of the world and ensuring that important elements are clearly visible.
The puzzles are always part of the narrative of this journey and, as already mentioned, are not created and designed to be too difficult or to make you get stuck.
Some areas are richer in puzzles and others are simply present to make you appreciate and enjoy the spectacular game world.
To complete the experience, it took between 7 and 8 hours of gameplay, which can increase if you are an achievement hunter.
Keeper, technical department
Graphically, Keeper is a true gem: aesthetics, dynamic effects, and surreal environments, everything works perfectly, with luminescent vegetation, deformed buildings, structures that transform as they are illuminated, psychedelic skies, and continuous chromatic changes.
A true spectacle for the eyes.
It's a game that doesn't want to look realistic, but alive: each area has a dominant color, its own life and identity. The water vibrates like glass, the rocks look like melting wax, and when the beam of light hits the environment, magic happens.
In Keeper, the artistic direction and technical department are superlative.

Keeper, sound department
Since, as repeatedly mentioned, Keeper is conceived as a narrative experience without dialogue, sound becomes the true voice of the story.
It's a constant presence, as if it were the island's breath.
Every rustle, every echo, every flap of Twig's wings carries enormous weight.
The incredible soundtrack subtly enters and exits, following the atmosphere and proving imposing but never intrusive. It's a concentration of light sounds, ambient vibrations, and almost spiritual tones that will lull you throughout the journey.
In some moments, when everything stops and you listen to the wind blow and your beam of light vibrate, you will understand that Keeper, at that precise instant, is whispering more than a thousand words.
A meticulous and painstaking work that makes it one of the best examples of narrative audio in recent years.
Keeper Review: conclusion
Keeper is further proof of how a crazy idea, if well thought out and developed, can result in an intelligent, magical, and beautiful game.
It's a title that speaks through images and sounds, and that focuses entirely on emotion, atmosphere, and visual wonder, managing to be touching without uttering a single word.
It's a superlative artistic experiment and an act of love towards light, life, and nature.
It's slow, contemplative, decidedly strange, and at the same time deeply fascinating. It's an experience that takes you by the hand and leads you to live the incredible journey of a lighthouse and a seabird, through an ever-evolving world, full of colors, full of magic.
