Tom Cruise Surprises John Goodman on the Set of Digger
A role very different from those that have characterized much of the actor's career
On the set of Digger, there was a moment when John Goodman didn't expect to find Tom Cruise in front of him. The actor had transformed to the point of making the star almost unrecognizable, thanks primarily to the character work and the prosthetics created for Alejandro G. Iñárritu's film.
Cruise is Digger Rockwell, a powerful oil magnate called upon to remedy the environmental disaster caused by his company. Undoubtedly a very different role from those that have characterized much of his recent career.
A transformation that goes beyond appearance
The character work also involved voice, movements, and attitude, elements that helped separate Cruise from his usual on-screen image. Even Riz Ahmed recounted how easy it was to forget that he had the actor in front of him and not the character.
Goodman is part of the rich cast along with Ahmed himself, Sandra Hüller, Jesse Plemons, and Michael Stuhlbarg. The actor plays the President of the United States, while Iñárritu has crafted Digger as a dark comedy with apocalyptic undertones.
The film will arrive in Italian cinemas on October 1, 2026.
