It was supposed to be one of the big sci-fi blockbusters of the coming years, but instead, the new live-action Voltron will arrive directly on streaming. Amazon has decided to distribute the film on Prime Video without a theatrical release, surprising fans of the historic animated saga.

The production had given the opposite impression from the start: a significant cast, enormous ambitions, and a visual approach clearly designed for the big screen. It's no coincidence that the project also boasts the presence of Henry Cavill, indicated by various rumors as the actor playing King Alfor, a central figure in Voltron's mythology.

According to early reports during filming, production reportedly made extensive use of real mechanical structures to simulate piloting the famous robotic lions, aiming to limit the artificial feel typical of many modern productions dominated by green screen.

Alongside Cavill, we will also find Sterling K. Brown in the role of the antagonist Zarkon, along with Rita Ora, Alba Baptista, and Daniel Quinn-Toye. Amazon's decision is already causing debate online, especially since another icon of Japanese mecha, Mobile Suit Gundam, is expected to aim for a traditional theatrical release in the coming years.
