The mythological journey envisioned by Zack Snyder comes to an abrupt halt. Twilight of the Gods, an ambitious animated series that concluded its first cycle with an explosive cliffhanger, will not continue. According to What’s On Netflix, the platform has decided to stop production for reasons purely related to global performance: viewership apparently did not justify further investment, despite the untapped narrative potential.

The decision is surprising, especially since the project originated as a high-profile collaboration between Stone Quarry Animation and Xilam Animation, with Jay Oliva as showrunner and Eric Carrasco leading the writers’ room. Snyder had even hinted in the past at an extensive plan for a second chapter, already outlined in its main plot points.

Premature End to a Notable Production

Adding to the bitterness is the original voice cast, rich with prominent names: Sylvia Hoeks as Sigrid, Stuart Martin as Leif, Pilou Asbæk as Thor, John Noble as Odin, and Paterson Joseph as Loki. A team that gave immense personality to a dark and visceral world, where mortals and gods clashed amidst vengeance, ancient rituals, and omens of Ragnarök.

With this cancellation, Twilight of the Gods joins other Snyder projects that have reportedly been slowed down on Netflix, including new developments related to the universes of Army of the Dead and Rebel Moon. An abrupt end for a saga that seemed ready to expand.
