Netflix will kick off 2026 with a bang: January 16 will mark the debut of The Rip – Don't Trust Anyone, a new film directed by Joe Carnahan that reunites Ben Affleck and Matt Damon on screen, playing a Miami police lieutenant and sergeant, respectively.

The duo finds themselves grappling with a discovery as tempting as it is dangerous: millions of dollars hidden in an abandoned warehouse. At first, it seems like a stroke of luck, but soon the money becomes a fuse ready to explode, as external forces come into play and mutual trust crumbles, transforming loyalty between colleagues into suspicion and betrayal.

The Duo's Return After Air

The trailer clearly shows the film's tone: brutal action, rising tension, and the feeling that no one is truly safe. Already the director of Narc, The A-Team, and The Grey, Carnahan confirms his realistic and gritty style, ideal for a story of corruption and ambiguous morality. The project, also produced by Affleck and Damon through their Artists Equity, boasts a high-caliber ensemble cast: Steven Yeun, Teyana Taylor, Sasha Calle, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Scott Adkins, and Kyle Chandler.

The big question is whether a film with these characteristics – two Hollywood stars, an experienced director, and a big-screen plot – will manage to stand out in Netflix's vast catalog. The fact remains that on paper, The Rip aims to be one of the most discussed titles of the new year.
