The new trailer for The Rip confirms that the film starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck will not be a relaxing watch. Released by Netflix ahead of its January 16 exclusive premiere on the platform, the new footage confirms a tense, gritty, and paranoia-fueled thriller, where the real danger isn't just crime, but mutual distrust.

The story revolves around a group of Miami police officers who, during a raid on an abandoned house, discover a huge stash hidden in some barrels. Millions of dollars that no one should see. From that moment, however, everything begins to crack. Damon plays Lieutenant Dane Dumars, seemingly the only one trying to maintain a fragile balance, while Affleck is Sergeant JD Byrne, an ambiguous figure on whom increasingly heavy suspicions begin to focus.

Fifteenth Shared Project Between Damon and Affleck

The trailer clearly suggests that in The Rip no one is truly innocent. The glances, silences, and double entendres count more than explosions, building a constant climate of psychological tension. When someone from the outside sniffs out the existence of the money, the situation escalates and violence becomes increasingly inevitable.

Directed by Joe Carnahan (Narc, Smokin' Aces, A-Team remake), a specialist in raw and uncompromising action thrillers, the film also boasts a strong ensemble cast including Steven Yeun, Teyana Taylor, Sasha Calle, and Kyle Chandler.

The Rip also marks the first collaboration between Netflix and Artists Equity, a company founded by Damon and Affleck, and represents the fifteenth time the two friends have shared a project. A reunion that smells of gunpowder, broken loyalties, and irreversible consequences.
