The Outer Worlds, the acclaimed sci-fi title from Obsidian Entertainment released in 2019, was designed to be played in first-person and only offered that perspective. Its sequel, The Outer Worlds 2, was also conceived for first-person, however… it will offer not one, but two third-person alternatives: one close, the other further from the character.

Third-person view was not in the plans

To make the entire game structure work in third-person, a significant amount of additional work was required (think of the animations that needed to be created, for example), which Obsidian undertook with the support of Disruptive studio. The extra views were not even in Obsidian's initial plans: Brandon Adler, the director of The Outer Worlds 2, revealed to Game Informer that his team only started working on them two years ago, well into development (work began in late 2019, after the release of the first installment).

The reason behind the two additional third-person views is the fans: after the first The Outer Worlds, many gamers expressed some disappointment at not being able to play in third-person, feedback that reached Obsidian's ears. We remind you that The Outer Worlds 2 will be available from October 29 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Microsoft Store, Steam) and from day one on the Game Pass service.
