The Mask: Chuck Russell Open to Jim Carrey's Return
The Eraser director said he is often pitched the idea of a sequel

For years, there has been talk of a possible return of The Mask, but this time it was the original film's director who directly reignited fans' hopes. Chuck Russell has indeed stated that he would be happy to return to the universe of the 1994 action comedy, especially if Jim Carrey were still by his side.
Interviewed during the initiatives dedicated to the thirtieth anniversary of Eraser, Russell said that the idea of a sequel is often proposed to him. While clarifying that no project is already underway, the filmmaker admitted that revisiting The Mask would be an exciting opportunity and that Carrey's involvement would be a fundamental element.
The director doesn't close the door on a new chapter
The statements take on particular significance considering the precedent of Son of the Mask, the 2005 film that attempted to continue the saga without the original protagonist and without Russell directing. An experiment that failed to replicate the success of the nineties cult hit.
Inspired by the comic book created by John Arcudi and Doug Mahnke, The Mask not only transformed Jim Carrey into an international star thanks to a character capable of combining surreal comedy, spectacular transformations, and an over-the-top energy.
Although nothing concrete is currently moving, the fact that the director has expressed his availability to return inevitably fuels expectations. And if Hollywood continues to rediscover its icons, Stanley Ipkiss might also have another chance to wear the famous green mask.
