Forget the muscular hero and the pop myth of 50 years ago. At 74 years old, Lou Ferrigno arrives on the big screen with a role that completely overturns his iconography: in The Hermit, he is a dark and menacing presence.

Rural Slasher Without Irony

From the trailer, the film seems to venture into the purest and grittiest territory of horror cinema: a rural slasher that openly harks back to the '70s. An isolated forest, two teenagers on vacation, and a silent giant watching them from afar. Ferrigno plays a cannibal hermit, armed with an axe and a physique that time has failed to diminish. No masks or psychological explanations are needed: his figure alone is enough to generate tension.

Salvatore Sclafani's direction emphasizes shadows, anticipation, and shots that transform the actor into a kind of legendary creature, rather than a simple killer. The references to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre are evident, but never ironic: The Hermit takes its disturbing imagery seriously.

Distributed by Uncork’d Entertainment, the film marks one of the most surprising returns in Ferrigno's career, historically linked to the television series The Incredible Hulk. Here, there doesn't seem to be a shred of nostalgia: just an imposing body put at the service of terror. Hopefully, the film will arrive on at least some platforms in our region.
