The debut of Supergirl is not convincing international critics. Hours after reviews were published, the new DCU film saw its approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes drop to 57%, entering the "Rotten" category and becoming the first project in the new shared universe to receive such an uncertain reception.

Comparison with previous productions is inevitable: Creature Commandos, Peacemaker Season 2, and Superman had achieved significantly higher ratings, fueling debate about a chapter that, unlike the others, did not feature James Gunn behind the camera or in the screenplay.

Conflicting Reviews, Milly Alcock Among the Positives

Many of those who saw it in preview expressed perplexity, especially regarding Craig Gillespie's direction, accusing the film of relying on familiar models without finding its own identity. Some reviews speak of unimpressive action scenes and a tone that never manages to find balance.

The most favorable judgments, however, come from websites specializing in the world of comics, which appreciate the story's darker and more irregular approach. On one point, however, there is almost unanimous consensus: Milly Alcock is convincing in the role of Kara Zor-El and is considered one of the best elements of the entire production.

It remains to be seen whether the audience's response, with its release in Italian cinemas today, will manage to overturn what has so far been a decidedly complicated start.
