After a disappointing theatrical run, Supergirl was banking on streaming to find a wider audience. However, the first available data paints a less positive picture than expected: according to Nielsen, the film garnered 304 million minutes viewed in the United States during its first four days of availability on HBO Max, equivalent to approximately 2.8 million complete views.

The result places Kara Zor-El's adventure, portrayed by Milly Alcock, behind several films from the previous DC phase, including titles that had already struggled during their theatrical runs.

The Comparison with DC's Past

These seem like high numbers, but significantly less so when we consider that in the same reference window, The Flash reached approximately 5.2 million equivalent views, while Blue Beetle reached approximately 5.9 million. Even Black Adam and Shazam! Fury of the Gods recorded higher starts, with approximately 5.1 and 4.5 million views respectively. It should be noted, however, that the data does not cover identical periods for all films and that Supergirl could increase its audience in subsequent weeks.

The most scrutinized aspect, however, concerns the new direction of the DC Universe: after the theatrical debut of Superman, the performance of the film dedicated to the Man of Steel's cousin represents an initial indicator of the new project's ability to engage audiences beyond cinemas.
