The new cinematic version of Street Fighter could have taken a very different direction. This was revealed by Takayuki Nakayama, a key figure for Street Fighter 6, who disclosed that the first script received was far from the desired standards and required extensive revision before convincing everyone.

According to Nakayama, the initial script presented such problems that a profound re-elaboration was necessary. In collaboration with director Kitao Sakurai and the production team, Capcom actively participated in the creative process, working for about two years until a version finally deemed worthy of the brand was achieved.

Two years of changes before the green light

The Japanese executive explained that he followed the project very closely and was satisfied with the final result, calling the film entertaining and showing full confidence in the work done by the cast and production.

Arriving in Italian cinemas on October 16, 2026, the film will be set in 1993 and will focus on Ryu and Ken, involved in the World Warrior tournament along with Chun-Li. Capcom's direct involvement is one of the most interesting aspects of the operation, in contrast to many past adaptations made with limited contributions from the original developers.

Even the first reactions to the trailer seem to have fueled cautious optimism among fans, leading to hopes that this time the famous fighting game can find on the big screen an adaptation more faithful to public expectations.
