Shrek Expands: New Projects Beyond the Fifth Film

The return of Shrek will not be a simple revival. DreamWorks Animation seems intent on relaunching the entire narrative universe connected to the green ogre, with multiple productions in development beyond the already announced Shrek 5.

According to the latest indications, the Studio is evaluating new spin-offs, including another chapter dedicated to the famous Puss in Boots. The character, voiced by Antonio Banderas, found new momentum thanks to Puss in Boots 2: The Last Wish, which proved to be both a commercial and critical success.

Much More Than Just a Sequel

The idea is clearly not to limit itself to bringing Shrek back, but to build a new, broader, and more articulated phase of the saga. After the 2010 conclusion with Shrek Forever After, the franchise seemed over, but today the aim is to reactivate it on multiple fronts.

The plan would also include a possible project dedicated to Donkey, the protagonist's legendary historical sidekick, thus expanding the number of parallel stories. The litmus test, however, remains Shrek 5, scheduled for 2027. Its success will be decisive in understanding whether this expansion can truly transform into a new phase of further longevity.
