Sacrifice, trailer brings Chris Evans to the volcano

Chris Evans tied up, Anya Taylor-Joy leading a group of fanatics, and a volcano as the final destination. This is the starting point of the first trailer for Sacrifice, the new film by Romain Gavras, son of the beloved Greek-French director, produced by Netflix.

Evans plays Mike Tyler, a movie star kidnapped during a gala evening. Taylor-Joy's character is Joan, who considers him the chosen one for a sacrifice and organizes the expedition to the volcano. From that moment, Mike begins a race against time with a destination that leaves little to the imagination.

A story that takes an unexpected turn

The trailer immediately pushes the story towards the grotesque, without worrying too much about staying grounded. Gavras wrote the screenplay with Will Arbery and cited Greek mythology and no less Joan of Arc among his influences. There's even room for The Lord of the Rings: the director explained that the structure of the journey to a volcano reminded him of Tolkien's saga.

In addition to Evans and Taylor-Joy, the cast includes Vincent Cassel, John Malkovich, Salma Hayek, and Charli XCX. In the United States and France, Sacrifice will arrive on Netflix on October 16; for Italy, an official date has not yet been announced.
