"Road to Screamer" Tells Us About Milestone's Ambition
A documentary gathers testimonials from developers
The year was 1995 when an unknown Italian software house named Graffiti created Screamer, a game that managed to carve out its niche in the arcade racing landscape. Shortly thereafter, that software house changed its name to Milestone and the franchise expanded with two more installments, Screamer 2 and Screamer Rally (there was also Screamer 4x4, but it was not developed by the Italian studio).
The documentary on the new Screamer
Three decades later, Milestone has decided to revive the franchise with Screamer, a reboot that will be available in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The new documentary "Road to Screamer" tells us about the creative process that led to the birth of this ambitious project. Key figures from the development team discuss their relationship with the legacy of the Screamer series, how it has been reimagined for new players, and innovations in gameplay.
The documentary also delves into the world of Screamer, how story and narration intertwine with the game, influencing the design of vehicles, environments, and characters. The purely stylistic aspect inspired by anime is also examined: it is no coincidence that the story will be told through animated interludes. If 17 minutes of documentary are not enough for you and you want to know even more about Screamer, there is an in-depth look at the gameplay that's perfect for you.
