If it had happened on the first day of the month, we would most likely have called it one of the most absurd April Fools' jokes we've ever witnessed, but the event we are about to discuss happened a few days later and, above all, it is not an April Fools' joke at all. Reality surpasses fiction on YouTube, where the presentation video of the flagship technology from the world's largest company was removed due to an unfortunate misunderstanding involving an Italian television network.

Nvidia vs La7

The video in question is the announcement of DLSS 5, Nvidia's controversial new feature: if you missed it, you can find our thoughts in a special feature. The Italian television network is La7, a private broadcaster from the Cairo Communication group: its news program, like many other information channels, covered the topic of DLSS 5 and obviously used some sequences from the announcement video to show to viewers.

La7 then uploaded its video containing the DLSS 5 announcement sequences to YouTube, and that's how the misunderstanding began, the real culprit of which is Content ID, YouTube's automatic copyright protection system. This protection system determined that the DLSS 5 sequences belonged to La7 because they were within a copyrighted La7 video. Consequently, Content ID blacked out Nvidia's announcement, deeming it to be illicitly reproducing La7's content.

The absurd result of this process is that the announcement video remained inaccessible for a few days. This surreal incident can only make us reflect on the flaws of a system that, while protecting intellectual property, risks leading to paradoxical outcomes when it fails to perform due diligence.
