The Virtual Boy is still remembered today as one of the most controversial hardware pieces in video game history. In 1995, Nintendo launched this device, a true console with a viewer to reproduce stereoscopic 3D images: it was an attempt to get ahead of its time in virtual reality, but the gamble proved to be a resounding failure. Today, the Virtual Boy is revived with an accessory for the Nintendo Switch family.

The Second Life of Virtual Boy

Virtual Boy has become a peripheral for Nintendo Switch 1 and 2: this accessory, which faithfully reproduces the original's form, will be available starting February 17, 2026, at a price of €79.99. If you prefer a more economical alternative, you can opt for a cardboard model, which will be available from the same date mentioned above, but at the more accessible price of €19.99.

Virtual Boy – Nintendo Classics

Virtual Boy – Nintendo Classics is the service that will allow you to play a series of titles that appeared on this peculiar console. To access the library, a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription is required. At launch, on February 17, 7 games will be available; another 7 will arrive during 2026, plus 2 brand new titles. Furthermore, if you don't like red, a future update will allow you to change the displayed color.
