The Mortal Kombat saga is ready to return to the big screen with a second chapter that promises to correct past mistakes and delve even deeper into the video game roots of the franchise.

After the first film grossed 85 million dollars, Warner Bros. decided to relaunch with a more faithful, raw, and spectacular sequel.

Clashes announced as unique and more brutal

Among the most anticipated new features is the arrival of Karl Urban in the role of the legendary Johnny Cage, a character beloved by fans but absent from the 2021 film. The New Zealand actor, known for The Boys and Dredd, will bring to life a surprisingly human version of the vain Hollywood fighter: “He’s not the arrogant Cage from the video games – Urban explained – but a disillusioned man, with a struggling career, who finds himself through the tournament.”

Director Ed Boon has promised a much more extreme approach: “If the first Mortal Kombat was R-rated (restricted to those under 17 unless accompanied by an adult), this is double that: pure madness.” The new adventure will finally introduce the famous tournament and a much larger cast, with over twenty iconic warriors including Kitana, Jade, Shao Kahn, and Baraka.

The new screenwriter Jeremy Slater assures that every fight will be unique and narratively significant: “We wanted every clash to show something new and for fans to truly feel they were witnessing Mortal Kombat as they always imagined it.”

Unfortunately, the Italian release date has been postponed from October 23, 2025, to May 15, 2026.
