Issue #255 of the Venom comic series has introduced a new design for Tombstone, one of Spider-Man's long-standing adversaries. Publisher Marvel Comics chose to modify the character's facial features, which for decades have been characterized by a very distinct and unrealistic style.

Tombstone, whose real name is Lonnie Thompson Lincoln, is an organized crime boss from New York who first appeared in 1988. Traditionally, the character was drawn with an extremely square jaw, a rigid haircut, and a flat-shaped nose. In the new issue of Venom, these elements have been softened. The new look maintains his pale skin and massive physique but features more human and detailed facial traits, similar to those of a real organized crime figure.

According to several industry analysts, this choice could indicate a desire to make the character more credible within the "street-level" stories of Marvel's new narrative cycle. The change has also generated discussions regarding the company's cinematic projects. In recent years, Marvel has often modified character designs in comics shortly before their live-action debut, to create visual consistency between the two media.

Currently, Tombstone has not yet had a prominent role in films produced by Marvel Studios, unlike other Spider-Man enemies such as Green Goblin or Doctor Octopus. Some hypotheses circulating among readers link this new aesthetic reboot to the villain's possible presence in the next film in the saga, titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day. At the moment, however, no official confirmations have been released regarding the film's production or the character's involvement.
