James Cameron has no intention of leaving Pandora, but remains aware that the future of the saga will depend on the success of Avatar 3, arriving in Italy on December 17, 2025. After the $2.9 billion grossed by the first film and $2.3 billion by the second, expectations are very high, even if the director admits some doubts about profit margins, especially due to the increasing costs of visual effects.

The new production titled Avatar: Fire and Ash will introduce another Na'vi people, the Mangkwan, inhabitants of volcanic regions, after having shown the bioluminescent forests and oceans of the Metkayina. Cameron thus confirms his idea of exploring Pandora through the four elements, progressively expanding the narrative universe.

A brilliant director who deserves different stimuli

Regarding the runtime, the director has already anticipated that the third chapter will be "a bit longer" than The Way of Water, with an estimated runtime of about 3 hours and 12 minutes. This choice is linked to the need to deepen the characters and not sacrifice ideas born during the writing phase.

As for the future, Cameron does not rule out taking a break or dedicating himself to more personal projects, while still leaving the door open for Avatar 4 and Avatar 5. Everything will depend on the audience's response and the possibility of making the production sustainable. Many years after the first film of the billion-dollar franchise, it wouldn't be bad if the brilliant director returned to bring a completely different story to life.
