Pennywise isn't finished yet tormenting Derry. HBO has officially renewed IT: Welcome to Derry for a second season, also confirming the temporal direction already envisioned by the creators, with the story taking a leap back to 1935.

The new season will be set during the Great Depression and will draw inspiration from the massacre of the Bradley Gang, a band of robbers who arrive in Derry to procure ammunition before being overwhelmed by an even greater horror than they had anticipated.

Derry Changes Era, But Not Nightmare

The return to the 1930s follows the structure conceived by Andy and Barbara Muschietti to tell the city's story through different eras. The first season was set in 1962, while the initial project envisioned a further leap back to 1908.

Brad Caleb Kane will be the sole showrunner for the second season. Bill Skarsgård is also expected to return as Pennywise, bringing the creature at the center of Stephen King's universe back to the screen. The new chapter will thus allow the series to explore another of the tragedies linked to Derry's cycles, this time in a very different period from what has been told so far.
