"If you make a film about Bruce Springsteen, you're making a film about the soul of America" – Scott Cooper talks Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere
Scott Cooper talks Springsteen – Deliver Me from Nowhere: a film about the soul of America and Bruce Springsteen's human legacy.

In his new film, Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere, director Scott Cooper brings to the screen one of the most intimate and mysterious moments of Bruce Springsteen's career: the birth of the album Nebraska (1982), a stark and poetic work that marked a rupture in American music. During Andrea Giordano's video interview, Cooper shared anecdotes, reflections, and a deep respect for the New Jersey artist, ultimately defining the heart of the film as follows:
“If you make a film about Bruce Springsteen, you're making a film about the soul of America.”

Bruce's gift: a gesture of authenticity
At the beginning of the conversation, Cooper reveals a touching detail: Springsteen donated some original clothes from 1982 to Jeremy Allen White, who plays the Boss, including a leather jacket and flannel shirts. It's as if his presence hovers over the film, in the most authentic way possible. A gesture that, for Cooper, perfectly encapsulates the meaning of the project: the search for authenticity.
“Giving a voice to the voiceless”
Speaking about the political and human value of Springsteen's work, Cooper quotes President Barack Obama, who called the musician “the best expression of the American experience”.
The director fully agrees:
“Bruce is not political in a partisan sense, but in a human and spiritual sense. He gives a voice to the voiceless, speaks to those living on the margins, to those struggling for an American dream that often doesn't materialize.”
For Cooper, making a film about Springsteen means investigating the country's wounds and hopes. “In such a divided historical moment, his music can still unite us,” he reflects. “We are all in troubled waters, but music remains the most powerful bridge between people.”
