Hyper Light Breaker Nearing Closure, Heart Machine in Crisis
The American studio was forced to reduce staff and revise its plans

The US studio Heart Machine, known for the acclaimed Hyper Light Drifter, expanded the franchise's universe with Hyper Light Breaker, an open-world cooperative action game with roguelike elements. Breaker debuted last January on PC, via Steam, in early access: it has currently reached patch 0.7.2. Unfortunately, however, the game's development has just received a major setback.
What Future for Hyper Light Breaker
In a statement to Game Developer, a Heart Machine spokesperson announced that the studio was forced to make layoffs due to force majeure. This will inevitably affect the development of Hyper Light Breaker, and the project will move towards its conclusion. The methods by which this conclusion and the end of support will be reached have not been specified, but it is inevitable that Heart Machine's initial plans will be scaled back.
The Future of Heart Machine
This hard blow does not mean the end of games for Heart Machine: the US software house will continue to make them in the future, relying however on a smaller team. Another title from the studio, Possessor(s), is due out in a month.
