Godzilla Minus Zero – First Sequel Poster and Release Dates
Minus One achieved great commercial success, awarded an Oscar for Visual Effects

Toho has officially announced the next cinematic chapter dedicated to Godzilla, confirming the return of Takashi Yamazaki after the sensational success of Godzilla Minus One. The new film will be titled Godzilla Minus Zero and will be a direct sequel, with Yamazaki once again serving as director, screenwriter, and visual effects supervisor.
The release is already set: Godzilla Minus Zero will arrive in Japanese cinemas on November 3, 2026, with its debut continuing from November 6, 2026. This close distribution confirms the project's international ambition.
Direct Sequel, Same Director

In the official statement, Toho recalled the extraordinary impact of Godzilla Minus One, the thirtieth Japanese live-action film in the franchise. The film grossed over 7.65 billion yen, celebrating the King of the Monsters' 70th anniversary and captivating audiences and critics worldwide. The absolute historic milestone came at the 2024 Oscars, where the film won the award for Best Visual Effects, becoming the first Asian film to do so.
The new chapter now aims to consolidate that creative and productive rebirth of Japanese Godzilla, which has managed to compete at the highest level even outside the domestic market. But Takashi Yamazaki looks further: the director is also involved in Grandgear, a project by Bad Robot Productions that will mark his directorial debut for an English-language film, about which no news has yet been leaked.
