Gears of War: E-Day - The Trailer and Release Date for the Xbox Exclusive

Fourteen years before the events of the first Gears of War, Earth was devastated by Emergence Day: the first contact with the Locust horde, which erupted from the depths, initiating a desperate struggle for survival. These moments will be at the heart of Gears of War: E-Day's story, and we will experience them through the eyes of Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago.

A Gears of War Rebuilt from Scratch

The developer of Gears of War: E-Day is The Coalition, a Canadian first-party Microsoft studio that has been handling the franchise since 2015. The Coalition has created all game assets from scratch, utilizing the power of Unreal Engine 5 to achieve a graphically cutting-edge result that simultaneously retains the Gears of War feeling. The benefits brought by Epic Games' engine are particularly noticeable in aspects like global illumination.

A Gears of War for All Tastes

Alongside the iconic campaign that will follow the exploits of Marcus and Dominic, we find other modes that have been brought back from Gears of of War's past and refined. Most notably, Horde, a PvE mode where you can face waves of Locust not only with four players, but even up to twelve. The 4v4 PvP mode, which has been perfected, is also present.

Where and When Gears of War: E-Day is Released

We know that Asha Sharma, the new CEO of Xbox, is re-evaluating the concept of exclusivity, so it's no surprise that the only console Gears of War: E-Day will arrive on is Xbox Series X|S. It cannot be called an absolute exclusive, because the game will also be available on Steam, but for now, it has been decided to exclude direct competitor PlayStation 5. The release date is set for October 6, 2026, and those who pre-order will be able to access the beta test from August 6. Gears of War: E-Day will be available day one on the Game Pass service.
