Pixar has released the first teaser for Gatto, an original feature film set to debut in Italian cinemas on March 4, 2027. The film chooses an unusual Venice as its setting, populated by felines and enveloped in noir-like atmospheres. The film also marks the return to direction for our very own Italian Enrico Casarosa, already the author of Luca, joined by producer Andrea Warren.

The protagonist is Nero, a stray cat with a complicated life who will get involved in a situation bigger than himself after finding himself indebted to Rocco, a ruthless boss of the feline underworld voiced by Laurence Fishburne. Mark Ruffalo will lend his voice to Nero in the original version.

A Black Cat Between Debts and Mysteries

The first images immediately highlight a visual style that distances itself from traditional Pixar photorealism. The stated goal is to recreate the sensation of a moving painting, utilizing the colors and architecture of the lagoon as an integral part of the narrative.

Pete Docter explained that the team deliberately sought a different graphic identity from previous productions, aiming (rightly so) for an audience looking for new visual languages. A choice that could distinguish Gatto in a period when the studio alternates new projects with sequels to established franchises.

With a story set among the canals of the beloved lagoon city and a protagonist forced to come to terms with his own past, Gatto seeks a personal path, relying on a visual language different from what the public traditionally associates with Pixar.
