Final Fantasy Resonance: The HD-2D Game Announcement and Release Date
The main franchise of the house meets the new graphic style

There's big news from Final Fantasy: shortly after revealing the conclusion of the FF7 trilogy, Revelation, Square Enix surprisingly announces another game for the franchise, although it's a different project from previous ones. It will be the first HD-2D title, the engine that combines three-dimensional backgrounds and characters made with 2D sprites. Its name is Final Fantasy Resonance.
The Story of Final Fantasy Resonance
Final Fantasy Resonance is set in a world protected by the power of crystals, where inhabitants live in peace. Their harmony is, however, broken by Veritas of the Dark, an antagonist who destroys one of these crystals and lays waste to the kingdom of Grandshelt. This evil character will be opposed by Rain and Lasswell, officers of the kingdom's army, who, accompanied by the mysterious girl Fina, embark on a journey to protect the remaining crystals.
The Gameplay of Final Fantasy Resonance
Final Fantasy Resonance will feature typical series elements, with pixel art cutscenes in the HD-2D style. Rain, Lasswell, and Fina will traverse a vast world rich in secrets, with hours and hours of secondary content to discover. The combat system will be a classic turn-based, with strategic twists. Players can strengthen their party with Visions, the echoes of beloved Final Fantasy characters, who will fight alongside the main characters with unique abilities.
Where and When Final Fantasy Resonance Releases
The release date for Final Fantasy Resonance is October 22, 2026, and pre-orders are open. The first HD-2D chapter of the JRPG franchise will reach PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 1 and 2, PC (Steam, Xbox PC) platforms. If you're craving something in HD-2D but can't wait until October, The Adventures of Elliot will be released next week.
