Father Mother Sister Brother – Three Broken Stories in 2K
Shot natively in 4.6K for Jarmusch's film, winner of the Golden Lion for Best Film 2025

With Father, Mother, Sister Brother, Jim Jarmusch constructs a family mosaic divided into three autonomous chapters, yet linked by the same emotional pain. Each segment follows the return of two adult siblings who, after years of estrangement, find themselves forced to confront the weight of unresolved relationships and parental figures incapable of offering emotional closeness.
The first episode is set in the United States and revolves around the difficult relationship with the father; the second moves to Dublin and addresses the irregular bond with the mother; the third, set in Paris, instead focuses attention on the relationship between brother and sister, now marked by long-standing misunderstandings.
An emotional journey across continents and misunderstandings
Jarmusch avoids dramatic twists and explicit melodramas, preferring to tell conflicts through fragmented dialogues, silences, and small daily gestures. The film thrives primarily on suspended atmospheres and characters who seem unable to openly express what they truly feel.
The international setting helps reinforce the sense of emotional distance that runs through the entire work. More than seeking a definitive reconciliation, Father, Mother, Sister Brother observes the fragility of human relationships and how time can transform affections into difficult territories to navigate. An ensemble cast with amazing performers and the return to the scene of the wonderful Tom Waits.

Shot digitally in 4.6K (Arri Alexa 35) and with a 4K master, though not widely distributed elsewhere in the world, the best edition available in Italy is this 2K Blu-ray, with an original image format of 1.85:1 (1920 x 1080/24 fps), AVC/MPEG-4 encoding on a BD-50 dual layer disc. Solid, precise elements even in the background, rich colors with deep blacks. Overall, an excellent technical presentation that holds up well even on large screens.
A largely dialogue-centric work, with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 Italian and English (16 bit), for an audio experience that nonetheless favors small effects and ambient noises when listening through an HT system. The English track offers a different and even more engaging mood, thanks to direct sound recording.
