Disney and Artificial Intelligence - Historic Agreement with OpenAI

Disney has made a decisive move in the technological landscape by announcing a strategic agreement with OpenAI that could redefine the future of storytelling. According to Variety, the company becomes the first major global Studio to officially license its catalog for Sora, OpenAI's generative video platform, paving the way for new forms of participatory creation.

The agreement will allow users to generate short videos from text prompts using the immense visual heritage of Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Lucasfilm: from Mickey to Elsa, from Iron Man to Yoda, over 200 characters and numerous iconic objects will enter a kind of global "creative playground".

Voices and likenesses of real actors excluded for now

The agreement is not just about the content library: Disney also becomes a strategic client of OpenAI, with the intention of integrating AI into its internal processes and the Disney+ platform, where advanced features, interactive experiences, and a selection of Sora-generated videos could arrive. The debut of this content is expected in early 2026.

To solidify the partnership, Disney reportedly invested 1 billion dollars in OpenAI, underscoring its desire to lead – not follow – the digital transformation of entertainment.
