Castlevania: Belmont's Curse Will Not Be a Roguelike
Barring any surprises, the new game in the saga is expected to revive the Metroidvania formula

Last month, Konami announced the new installment in one of its most popular franchises: Castlevania: Belmont's Curse. The new title will put us in the shoes of a female protagonist, a descendant of the Belmont clan, whose name we do not yet know. Wielding various weapons, most notably the whip, this heroine will have to defeat the monsters that have descended upon the city of Paris, at the turn of the 15th century. However, the announcement had not clarified a fundamental point: the game's genre.
Will Belmont's Curse be a Metroidvania?
For development, Konami entrusted Motion Twin and Evil Empire, the French studios behind Dead Cells: hence the well-founded doubt that Belmont's Curse might deviate from the traditional Metroidvanias of the house to embrace the same genre as Dead Cells, namely the roguelike. This doubt was dispelled by Tommy Williams, who handles Konami's communication for America.
Williams (via The Verge) states that Castlevania: Belmont's Curse will be a "2D Action-Exploration game", where players can freely explore vast and elaborate maps. He then clarifies that it will not be a roguelike, nor a roguelite. The term "Metroidvania" is not explicitly mentioned, but at this point, it seems the most probable option. We remind you that the game will be released in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, PC via Steam, and Xbox PC.
