Castlevania: Belmont's Curse - The Return of the Konami Series
A new game announced for the saga's 40th anniversary
In September 1986, Castlevania, the first chapter of a cult series, was released in Japan. Konami intends to celebrate the fortieth anniversary in the best possible way: with a new game, which will be developed in collaboration with Motion Twin and Evil Empire, the French studios behind the phenomenon Dead Cells. This new title is called Castlevania: Belmont's Curse.

Belmont's Curse is set in Paris, in 1499: the French city has been invaded by monsters, and we find a heroine, a descendant of the Belmont clan, confronting them. In terms of gameplay, it is not yet clear whether the game will adopt the classic metroidvania formula or lean towards the roguelite level-based approach of Dead Cells, but considering the developers, the second hypothesis seems more likely.

Throughout the adventure, the protagonist will wield a series of weapons and tools, first and foremost Castlevania's iconic whip, which will also serve as a means to grab ledges and overcome obstacles. The graphic style represents a novelty for the series: the gothic traits typical of Castlevania's design are recognizable, but the overall picture is very colorful (and in this, it also resembles Dead Cells).

The launch window for Castlevania: Belmont's Curse is set for 2026 (perhaps it will be released in September, when the saga turns 40?). You will find this title on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, PC via Steam, and Xbox PC platforms.
