Betty Boop - From Animated Icon to Ruthless Killer
A feminist approach will transform the former 1930s muse into a lethal avenger

The iconic Betty Boop has been a symbol of sensuality and freedom since the 1930s. Her sensuality is now ready to transform on the big screen into the protagonist of a horror film. The historic flapper with big eyes and a flirtatious smile leaves black and white behind to dive into blood red, in a slasher version by VMI Worldwide.
Directed by Jared Cohn and written by Josh Ridgway, the film will be presented at the American Film Market and will feature Devanny Pinn in the role (and nightmares) of the new Betty Boop. Also in the cast are Katisha Shaw, Spencer Breslin, Eva Hamilton, and Colton Tran. The plot follows a group of podcasters investigating an old abandoned theater about the legend of the vanished diva, unaware that they are awakening a jazz-infused nightmare.
From Jazz to Slasher

According to producer Jessica Russo, this reinterpretation “will give Betty back her power,” with a feminist approach that transforms the former muse into a lethal avenger. The idea arose after the character entered the public domain, paving the way for new and bolder versions.
After phenomena like Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey and Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare, Betty Boop also joins the horror trend of reinvented classics. Only in this case, the transition from cabaret to terror seems more natural: the first image above suggests that the iconic “boop-oop-a-doop” could easily turn into a murderous scream.
