Amazon: Lord of the Rings MMO Cancellation Almost Certain
But the company states it is still working on the intellectual property

Tomorrow, May 15th, will mark exactly three years since Amazon's announcement of the Lord of the Rings MMO, a project conceived in collaboration with Embracer Group, which was supposed to lead to the creation of a persistent world set in Middle-earth. Since then, however, not only have we not received substantial updates on this title, but Amazon has significantly reduced its commitment to video game development.
No MMO for The Lord of the Rings?
Already last November, rumors began to surface suggesting the project's cancellation; six months later, these fears seem to have become reality. Eurogamer is certain of this, having learned of the MMO's cancellation from sources close to the developers, who remained anonymous for obvious reasons. However, an official confirmation has not yet arrived from the e-commerce giant.

Jeff Grubb, head of Amazon's video game division, when questioned on the matter, merely commented that the creative team is continuing to explore a gaming experience that does justice to Tolkien's world, working closely with Middle-Earth and harboring great enthusiasm for the intellectual property. According to Grubb's words, Amazon is therefore still working on a Lord of the Rings game, but according to Eurogamer, it would no longer be the MMO. We await official communications on the matter.
