A Big Bold Beautiful Journey and The Life of Chuck - The 2K Editions
Native 4K material, DTS-HD tracks, and a good dose of production extras

Among the less considered releases of the last film season are two very different films, but united by a strong emotional component and an original look at human destiny: A Big Bold Beautiful Journey and The Life of Chuck.
Two reflections on time, choices, and the meaning of life
A Big Bold Beautiful Journey is a romantic story that blends romantic comedy and fantasy with great delicacy. The film follows David, heading to a wedding in an old car equipped with a curious GPS system, who along the way meets Sarah. From that encounter, an unexpected journey unfolds, guided by mysterious “doors” that lead the protagonists through moments of the past and fragments of their identity.
Director Kogonada constructs a visually fascinating narrative, made of vivid colors and luminous images, reminiscent in sensibility of certain romantic anime by Makoto Shinkai. The chemistry between Colin Farrell and Margot Robbie makes a story credible that plays with genre clichés but transforms them into something personal and poetic. The result is a tender and slightly surreal film, capable of captivating those willing to be carried away by its fairytale spirit. Here is Elisa Giudici's review.
Completely different in tone but equally evocative is The Life of Chuck, directed by Mike Flanagan and based on a short story by Stephen King. The story opens with a world on the brink of collapse, as mysterious advertisements thank a man named Charles “Chuck” Krantz for his thirty-nine years of life. Through a narrative structure that proceeds backward, the film reconstructs the existence of this seemingly ordinary man. Flanagan transforms the story into a delicate and melancholic reflection on memory, identity, and the importance of small things. Tom Hiddleston delivers an intense performance, supported by a solid cast that includes Chiwetel Ejiofor and Jacob Tremblay. Here is Elisa Giudici's review.
If the first film is a romantic journey between fantasy and destiny, the second is a meditation on life itself. Both remind us how even the simplest existences can hide something extraordinary.

Both shot digitally with a final 4K master, excellent quality 2K Blu-ray editions, with The Life of Chuck (1920 x 1080/23.97) also available in UHD. Here, the image format is very interesting, following the evolution of the narrative with different aspect ratios: 1.85:1 for the first part, 2.00:1 for the second, and 2.39:1 for the third; while A Big Bold Beautiful Journey remains anchored to Univisium 2.00:1 for the entire work (1920 x 1080/23.97p). Both on dual-layer BD-50 with AVC/MPEG-4 encoding, remarkable colors as well as blacks, with few moments of slight fluctuation in the background with hints of banding, but nothing that could seriously concern even with large screens, especially in cases of real-time remastering.
For both, Italian and English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 (16 bit) tracks provide a good overall atmosphere when listening through separate channels, favoring music, ambient sounds, and dialogue from the center.

For extras, The Life of Chuck offers: commentary on the film by Mike Flanagan; making-of (18') with contributions from cast and crew; interviews with Tom Hiddleston (14'), Chiwetel Ejiofor (10'), Mark Hamill (9'). A Big Bold Beautiful Journey includes 2 production focuses (6' + 6') and a look at the musical part (4'). Italian subtitles.
