Hot Wheels Let’s Race: The Return of the Orange Track

As children, many of you will have launched the legendary Hot Wheels down an orange track. Now, it has all been transformed into an arcade racing game with epic tracks, the brand's most iconic cars, and gameplay that guarantees pure action.

Produced by Mattel, Inc. and GameMill Entertainment, the game is inspired by the successful Netflix series Hot Wheels Let’s Race. It is entirely based on the adventures of Coop, Spark, Mac, Bright, Axle, and Cruise, each distinguished by their style and characteristics. But not only the characters, you will also have the opportunity to drive some of the most famous Hot Wheels cars, such as GT-Scorcher, Roger Dodger, and the legendary Duck N’Roll.

Hot Wheels Let’s Race, the game modes

There are five game modes you can find in Hot Wheels Let’s Race: Ultimate Speed:

• Racing Camp, to hone skills and tackle themed challenges
• Cup Champ, competitive tournaments to become the ultimate champion
• Speed Trials, time trials for the fastest
• Track Builder, the editor to create custom tracks
• Free Races, free races for pure fun

Extreme Gameplay: Crazy Jumps and Epic Bosses

The game also offers frantic and exciting battles against the “monsters” created by Professor Rearview, such as the legendary fire-breathing dragon. The boss fights are the real twist: each boss has unique mechanics, such as special attacks, dynamic obstacles, and modified tracks. It’s as if Mario Kart had a child with Cuphead, and the result is surprisingly fun.

The game also features 12 exaggerated tracks inspired by episodes of the series, enriched with dynamic obstacles and spectacular scenarios.

All of this is enclosed in gameplay designed with quick and fluid controls that are easy to memorize. An initial tutorial also helps to understand everything that can be done on the track. This allows for great challenges both solo and with friends, in split-screen for up to 4 players.

Maximum Customization in Ultimate Garage

With each victory, and by unlocking various objectives, you can obtain flame badges which are essential for unlocking cars, decals, and track parts. All this to create the vehicle to your liking and show it off in every competition.

The graphics harken back to 90s Hot Wheels commercials; with saturated colors and particle effects that fully demonstrate that the game absolutely does not aim for realism. With audio based on deliberately exaggerated engine sounds, which stand out with the use of turbos in real explosions, and a soundtrack that combines rock and synth reminiscent of a rave party.

In our PC test, even with graphics in Ultra mode, there were no major bugs or choppy gameplay moments. On the contrary, everything was always fluid. A sign of good quality work in the graphics department.

Hot Wheels Let’s Race: Prices and Available Versions

Hot Wheels Let’s Race: Ultimate Speed will be sold at a price of 39.99 euros (standard version), while the Digital Deluxe Edition will cost 49.99 euros and will include the High Voltage Speed DLC Pack, with additional cars, new elements for the Track Builder, and exclusive decals. The DLC will also be available for purchase separately at 14.99 euros. It will be available for Xbox, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch.

And in the end, we all become children again

We are certainly not talking about Gran Turismo or Forza Horizon, but a game that will allow you to travel with your imagination again. All while still providing that right dose of challenge, which never hurts, and the desire to spend a Sunday with the family having fun together. Perhaps, with the right adjustments and maybe with a series of DLCs, it could become a competitor to more renowned games. Also strong with an accessible price. It is obvious we are not talking about a triple-A or a GOTY candidate, but a video game that you can easily give to your children, perhaps telling them about a game from your own childhood.
