One of the most celebrated adventure novels of all time is preparing to return to the screen. Treasure Island is the classic written by Robert Louis Stevenson and published in 1883 that will become a new television series destined for streaming.

The project was announced by MGM+ for the US market and Paramount+ for Europe. The production will consist of six episodes, a format that should allow for a more in-depth adaptation compared to the numerous cinematic versions made over the decades.

The beloved novel comes back to life

David Oyelowo (image above) has been cast in the role of the famous pirate Long John Silver, called upon to portray one of the most iconic characters in adventure literature. The cast also includes Hayley Atwell, who will be Bess Hawkins, while Jack Huston will play Aaron Graham.

The story follows young Jim Hawkins, who comes into possession of the treasure map that belonged to the feared Captain Flint. From that moment, a sea expedition takes shape that soon turns into something much more dangerous than a simple gold hunt.

Amidst ambiguous sailors, conspiracies, and possible mutinies, the ship becomes a place where trust is fragile and betrayal always lurks. It is precisely this mixture of adventure and morally ambiguous characters that has made Treasure Island a benchmark for all pirate stories that followed.
