Thunderbolt and Lightfoot Remake – Ryan Reynolds to Star
In 1974, the dazzling cinematic debut of the unforgettable Michael Cimino
The Canadian actor is preparing to re-interpret one of Clint Eastwood's most beloved classics: Thunderbolt and Lightfoot (1974), a film that marked the directorial debut of what was already an immense Michael Cimino at the time.
The project will be produced by his production company Maximum Effort alongside Amazon-MGM Studios, hoping to bring back to the screen that unmistakable blend of action, irony, and melancholy that made the original famous.
Michael Cimino's Dazzling Debut
Reynolds will play Lightfoot, the young and charismatic con artist portrayed by Jeff Bridges in the '74 version, while the role of director will be entrusted to Shane Reid, already an editor for Deadpool & Wolverine, making his directorial debut here. The screenplay will be penned by Enzo Mileti and Scott Wilson, creators of the series Fargo, guaranteeing dark humor and sharp dialogue.
The Canadian actor thus aims to breathe new life into a cult "buddy movie", blending the rough and melancholic tone of the 1970s with his sarcastic and modern verve. There's also the juiciest rumor: according to The Hollywood Reporter, Reynolds could reunite on set with his friend and colleague Hugh Jackman, with whom he just shared the success of the Marvel comic book movie. He is theoretically expected to take on Eastwood's role, that of "Thunderbolt". No release date has been announced yet.
