The actress returns as Jay Height, a young woman haunted by a mysterious entity
Maika Monroe, the lead actress in the 2014 cult horror film It Follows and the equally notable Longlegs (2024), has revealed new details about They Follow, a sequel once again directed by David Robert Mitchell. In an interview, she recounted reading the screenplay and being captivated by it: “It’s incredible, but very different from the original. If the first film was more tense and dramatic, this one is more intimate and realistic, focusing on two women facing deep mental torment.”
The actress will reprise her role as Jay Height, the girl haunted by a mysterious entity that spreads like a curse: 10 years later, the threat seems to have spread everywhere. Monroe anticipates that the new chapter will be “bigger, darker, and more disturbing” than the previous one.
The curse spread like a contagion
Director and screenwriter Mitchell will return behind the camera, while composer Disasterpeace, author of the first film's famous soundtrack, is in talks to reprise his role. The production is handled by Neon and Good Fear Content, with the goal of starting filming by 2026.
Meanwhile, Maika Monroe will star alongside Mary Elizabeth Winstead in the thriller The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, a modern reimagining of the '90s classic, coming to Hulu.
