The original Nintendo Switch is a phenomenon with over 154 million units sold, numbers that allow it to join the Nintendo DS on the throne of the most successful gaming devices in Nintendo's history. The figures are staggering, but the company's latest arrival, Nintendo Switch 2, seems destined to do even better, at least concerning its first year of life.


Switch 2 sales forecasts

We saw yesterday in this article that Switch 2 has sold a remarkable 10.36 million units from its launch on June 5th to September 31st. This start has been so dazzling that Nintendo has been forced to revise its sales forecasts upwards for the first fiscal year, which will end on March 31, 2026. While Nintendo previously thought it could reach approximately 15 million units by that date, it now estimates that a full 19 million Switch 2 units will be sold.


Switch 2 would therefore sell 19 million units in 10 months and, as mentioned above, would outperform its predecessor. The original Switch was released in early March 2017: by the end of the subsequent fiscal year, i.e., March 31, 2018, it managed to sell "only" 17.8 million units. Note that for Switch 1, we are talking about a period of 13 months, compared to 10 months for Switch 2...
