June 29, 2026, marks the official debut of Steam Machine, the new gaming device from Valve. This mini PC has sparked a rather heated discussion among enthusiasts: the format is undeniably appealing, but the price is very high, a factor that inevitably limits the interest of a large part of the public, especially considering it might be a superfluous expense for those who already own a gaming PC.

Shuhei Yoshida's Opinion

Steam Machine ended up in the hands of Shuhei Yoshida, the historic former PlayStation executive, who shared his first impressions in a message on Twitter/X. There is much perplexity about its power: Yoshida describes the 3D performance with an unequivocal "meh" and criticizes the default resolution set to 1080p, wondering if we've gone back to the days of PlayStation 4. Loading times also seemed too long to him.

Yoshida also notes some positive aspects, such as the easy-to-use system interface, the power button on the controller, and the interchangeable cover. However, the former PlayStation boss finds the price to be "very unfriendly", which makes it difficult for him to recommend Steam Machine to other people.
