Finnish developer Housemarque announces Zenith, an update available for free to all Saros owners starting today, October 19. This update aims to expand the gameplay experience by addressing specific needs: on one hand, it makes the campaign more accessible to those who find it excessively difficult, without distorting the gameplay, while on the other hand, it offers a higher challenge level and additional modes for veterans.

Changes for those who want an easier Saros

To meet the needs of newcomers, Housemarque has worked to make the bullet hell a little less… hellish. The new Slowed Game Speed feature maintains the same quantity of incoming projectiles but gives the player more time to decide how to avoid them. With Auto-Fire, on the other hand, shots will be fired automatically when an enemy is targeted. Furthermore, the list of Carcosa Modifiers has been extended, with 10 new Protection entries to help the user.

Changes for those who want a more difficult Saros

There are 10 other new modifiers, which conversely increase the challenge level. Those looking for a tougher challenge can try the new New Game+ mode Eclipse Layers, which will require replaying the Saros campaign from scratch but making it more arduous, by activating a series of modifiers according to certain requirements. The game will thus become more difficult, but particular Visions can be unlocked, which will allow players to delve deeper into the lore of the planet Carcosa.

The Overlord Rush mode

The Zenith update also introduces Overlord Rush, a boss rush mode where players can re-challenge the main enemies. It consists of three Sets: the first two, Incursion and Ascension, pit the player against three Overlords each and can be completed in about ten minutes. The last Set, Totality, requires confronting all eight Overlords. The scores obtained can be compared to those of friends on the global leaderboard.
