RoboCop, Alex Murphy's New Face Is a Surprise
The story will begin in a city that decides to entrust part of its police work to technology
Dan Stevens will be the face of Alex Murphy in the new RoboCop series destined for Prime Video. The British actor, already a star of Legion and Godzilla vs. Kong, thus inherits a cinematic legacy primarily associated with Peter Weller, who played the role in Paul Verhoeven's 1987 film, and Joel Kinnaman in the 2014 reboot. The news was exclusively reported by Deadline.
The project will consist of 8 episodes and is a collaboration between Amazon MGM Studios and Blumhouse Atomic Monster. Peter Ocko will serve as showrunner, while James Wan will be among the executive producers.
New Murphy, New Future for RoboCop
The story will begin with a city that decides to entrust part of its police work to technology. A large tech group will then introduce a robot into the police force, but the consciousness of Murphy, an officer killed in the line of duty, will be transferred into the machine.
The series will thus revisit the core of the original idea, moving it into a contemporary context. The choice of Dan Stevens comes as the actor continues to work with Amazon MGM: he has just finished filming the new series based on John le Carré's Legacy of Spies. A debut date has not yet been announced. The project, however, represents the first live-action television adaptation of the character since the 2014 film.
