The historic interpreter of Freddy Krueger, Robert Englund, has shared an idea that horror fans have long dreamed of. In an interview with Bloody Disgusting for the 4K Home Video release of the Nightmare saga, he explained how he believes the character should be reborn.

For the actor, the future does not lie in another remake of the first film, but in a prequel that tells Freddy's origin before his definitive transformation. "It would be interesting to go back to the roots, even before Nancy and Glen, to explore the human side of the monster," he declared.

An idea that deserves to be developed

And of course, the key question arose: who could wear the bladed glove? Englund suggests a "physical and transformative" actor like Doug Jones (The Shape of Water, Pan's Labyrinth), capable of giving new form to terror. Years ago, Kevin Bacon's name was also circulating, a choice Englund describes as "perfect but now unlikely."

However, the actor believes that the ideal solution is to focus on a new face, free from the burden of comparison with him. "We don't need a copy, but someone who creates their own vision," he emphasized. According to Englund, the physical appearance could also change: a taller, leaner, more feline Freddy, perhaps unsettling in a different way. In short, a different nightmare for a new generation of viewers, ready to bring Krueger back to the Olympus of horror cinema.
