One of the prerogatives of PlayStation 5 Pro is called PSSR, an acronym for PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, a technology conceived by Sony in partnership with AMD specifically for the console, which is based on artificial intelligence with a neural network architecture and serves to upscale game images. The standard version of PlayStation 5 had been excluded from such an innovation, at least until now.

QSSR improves PS5 game visuals

The hardware power demanded by PSSR to function prevents the standard PlayStation 5 from using it, but Sony has circumvented the problem by creating a variant of its AI upscaling, called QSSR (Quick Spectral Super Resolution). This additional technology allows for visual benefits to standard PS5 games, although the performance level is obviously not the same as PSSR.

The new QSSR technology will be made available to all PlayStation 5 developers, and in the future, we will likely see many video games make use of it, but there are two available now. The first titles to leverage QSSR are Marvel's Wolverine and Ghost of Yotei, which have received a patch that allows this visual option to be activated today.
