A place to find oneself could become a trap. This is the impression left by the first teaser for Pendulum, a horror film written and directed by Mark Heyman, already a screenwriter for Black Swan and now making his directorial debut.

In the film, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Phoebe Dynevor play Patrick and Abigail, a couple who arrive at a spiritual retreat in New Mexico after a life-altering trauma. Abigail seems to find a possible answer in the community, while Patrick soon begins to view their guide with suspicion, played by Jacki Weaver. The line between therapy and manipulation thus becomes increasingly thin, as something in the group's practices fuels Patrick's concerns. But it's not just paranoia.

A Story with a Personal Connection

The film stems from a particularly personal story for Heyman, who chose to shoot it in the very places where he grew up and where the events inspiring the script allegedly occurred. The cast also includes Norman Reedus, while Darren Aronofsky is among the producers with Protozoa Pictures.

The MPA, the U.S. censorship board, has given Pendulum an “Rrating for its particularly violent, graphic, and sexual content. The film will arrive in American cinemas on January 1, 2027, distributed by Vertical Entertainment, while we're taking bets on a direct "slide" to online platforms here.
