About six years ago, the English studio Ninja Theory announced Project: Mara. According to an initial report, it was supposed to be a project aimed at continuing the work on human psychology inaugurated with the first Hellblade, with the goal of recreating horror in a new, experimental, and more realistic way. Since then, the studio has released the second Hellblade, but nothing more has been heard about Project: Mara. What happened to it?

Ninja Theory's plans

The answer comes from Jez Corden (via Xbox Two Podcast) but if you're hoping for positive news, we regret to disappoint you. According to Corden, contrary to what was previously believed, Project: Mara was not a new game in development, but only a concept. Apparently, Ninja Theory has not worked to turn this concept into reality: it's not ruled out that they might do so in the future, but currently the studio's attention is focused elsewhere.

Hellblade 3 will be more "game-like" than its predecessors

So what is Ninja Theory up to? The most obvious answer seems to be the right one. According to Corden, the studio is developing the third installment of the Hellblade saga. Compared to its predecessors, this title will become more "interactive": Corden doesn't know precisely what the nature of the game is, but it should indeed be more "game-like" than what has been done in the past.
