Nintendo Surprisingly Announces Star Fox 64 Remake

Without any prior notice, Nintendo broadcast a Direct to announce the remake of one of its great classics. The special was preceded by a brief introduction with master Shigeru Miyamoto, who spoke to us about the latest Super Mario movie. After this preamble, the microphone passed to Yoshiaki Koizumi, Senior Executive Officer of Nintendo, who introduced Star Fox to the world.

Star Fox is reborn, after almost 30 years

Star Fox 64, also known as Lylat Wars, was originally released on the Nintendo 64 console in 1997, and apparently the Japanese company has a big soft spot for this title, as this is not the first remake dedicated to it... The new version will be faithful to the original in terms of basic structure and gameplay, with an obvious update in terms of graphics and technology.

The remake, simply called Star Fox, will therefore offer the same interplanetary campaign, with the characters and starships we already know and which are reviewed in the stream. A novelty will be the Briefings between missions, which will allow for a deeper understanding of the world of Star Fox. Then there's the VS Mode, which allows two teams of 4 players to compete.

Star Fox will be released on Nintendo Switch 2 and will leverage some of the console's features, starting with the control system: players will be able to aim more precisely using the Joy-Con 2 as a mouse. Furthermore, Star Fox characters will be available as avatars for Game Chat, but that's not all: the camera will track the player's face to reproduce their movements on the avatar in real time.

When Star Fox comes out and how much it costs

Star Fox will be an absolute exclusive for Nintendo Switch 2. This remake has a release date set for June 25, 2026. The price of Star Fox is €49.99, in digital format. Below is the Direct subtitled in Italian (the game discussion begins at minute 10 onwards).
