New Xbox Loses Key Personnel: COO Departs
After only a few months in the role

The new direction for Xbox, undertaken after the replacement of long-time head Phil Spencer with Asha Sharma, is intended to get Microsoft's gaming division back on track after a long period of significant investments that do not yet seem to have borne fruit. The profound restructuring process has led to thousands of layoffs and modified Xbox's organizational chart, with some substantial changes.
Helen Chiang Leaves Xbox
Among these changes, Sharma had highlighted the establishment of a new role, that of chief operating officer (COO), with the task of bringing all of Xbox's business under a unified model, thereby enabling better decision-making. The choice for this position had fallen on Helen Chiang, who had previously overseen the company's biggest success, Minecraft.
Today, a report from The Verge indicates that Chiang has left her position. This development is surprising for several reasons: from Sharma's words, it seemed that the COO role had strategic importance in the new Xbox, yet it has been abandoned after less than 4 months, and it is unknown when it will be reinstated, as its functions will be distributed among other Xbox executives. Furthermore, Chiang boasts extensive experience at Microsoft, having served the Redmond company for a full 21 years.
